Shamisen sensei Kumiya Fujimoto is the maestro behind Japanese Lounge Night, which seeks to bring the austere world of traditional Japanese music to the masses (or at least the regulars of expat haunt The Pink Cow). Kumiya and masters of other traditional instruments, including the multi-stringed koto and shakuhachi, host monthly performances at which foreign musicians are invited to jump in for impromptu East-meets-West jam sessions. The free event celebrates its first anniversary this month, so dust off that kimono and head over to the Cow.
