Fans of left-field Japanese female rock trio eX-Girl may have wondered what became of unforgettable frontwoman Kirilola after the band released their last album in 2004. It turns out the operatic singer went solo, and is applying her fevered imagination to songs that take much-maligned “healing music” into psychedelic, Japonesque territory. A pair of upcoming concerts will provide a good window into Kirilola’s current activities. Next month, she’ll sing and play Japanese bells alongside Native American storyteller Dennis Banks in a program entitled Healing Mother Earth, which also features avant-garde cellist Hiromichi Sakamoto. In December, she will take the stage at Koenji’s new public theater in a concert that reunites her with eX-Girl producer Hoppy Kamiyama. Also slated to perform are koto maestro Kuniko Saho and clay whistle players Wooji and Tamami.
