Lee Bul is a very interesting artist. There is something of Francis Bacon in the work, the missing and the abstract. Focus on the body and the studio. The private and the public on display. A great inspiration to myself as an artist

Yes, excellent...been listening to Richard and Merzbow for almost 20 years. The Cuneiform record label has the best in new innovative and creative soundz wild beyond your normal thump thump thump thump beat of the ever-lasting bass drum. Richard sure is a pioneer of synthesis of synth sounds. Highly recommended but for those who total lose themselves in sound.

Japanese artists are so inspirational. Infact they should get much more press than they do at the moment. Looking at this years Art Fair Tokyo, it will be another great event! Hope to see some of the artists show this year in London.

By chance I was lucky enough to be able to visit the Jackson Pollock exhibition in Tokyo. The centre piece was the work shown in this article. It was amazing and people were going back to it after they had seen it once. Really found the piece to be inspirational. There were also many very early works which I had never seen before. In a sense it was a collection of works that were not shown at the Tate retrospective a few years ago. A good exhibition made great by the centre piece of the show.

What are they talking about "nobody responded"? I saw them doing their thing in Yoyogi a year ago and the audience loved them. They had a phenomenal knack for picking the right members of the crowd for their interactive segments. Maybe the next time they do a show, they should watch it instead of performing it. They would get a different perspective.

"The astronomical values placed on Pollock’s works may seem a little baffling, given that almost anyone with a few cans of paint and a bad attitude could create them..."

A few cans of paint and a bad attitude?
The implication of course is that due to the work not being a lifelike depiction of a physical object or person, it thus requires no "skill" to do.
I would caution the writer that the same could be said for Japanese calligraphy, which is properly done spontaneously and thus appears scribbled and imperfect. The energy and purity of idea thus conveyed by it, however, has earned it consideration as a high art form for millenia, and in modern times the world over.
The same could in fact be said for the work of many popular modern painters who's work doesn't faithfully duplicate the appearances of real things, such as Picasso, Matisse or Basquiat, for example.
As a little experiment which may demonstrate my point, one might actually attempt a painting duplicating the technique of one of these artists. You may find its not so simple.

It would be cool to go to this exhibition, seeing that Pollack's works don't usually show in Japanese galleries (except last year's Surrealism exhibition). If anyone has a chance during Golden Week, they should visit these pieces of history and beauty.

Went on opening day - absolutely incredible work. Unfortunately they switched out almost all of the pieces halfway through the exhibition so if you go now you'll only see half of what they had to offer. Highly recommended.
