The trouble is anyone can send messages to anyone else, whether they know them or not. If the system is altered so that only friends can send messages to other friends, then the [...]

That is in the left menu under ”Profile” when you are on yours or someone else’s page. I suppose I will work to make it more visible.

Well since I have the equipment and considerably more knowledge than you, I guess I’ll go with my assessment of the best frequency to do updates. This Tokyo government site does hourly updates and should keep you happy: http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/emergency/monitoring.tokyo-eiken.go.jp/monitoring/hourly_data.html

The value in publishing daily measurements has decreased since there are no significant radiation releases coming from Fukushima. We will publish measurements every couple of days, or more frequently if the situation changes.

Tsunayoshi: I actually take a couple a day (you can find them on the facebook page which is linked on the page). I have a radiation detector (scintillator type) clipped to my belt (yes, I know that’s pretty geeky). IF there is a significant increase, I’ll take hourly measurements and alert people via Metropolis, Facebook [...]

I believe this is sampled at Shinjuku. It’s scientific but released by the Ministry of Science. Would the government lie? Maybe. Would Scientist? Probably not. Ruin their credibility for life. I think it’s safe to say it’s scientific. The level before the disaster would be “Not Detected” (basically 0) because you really only get those [...]

chasrmartin: wow, great information. Just read your article. It’s well written and a great explanation of ionizing radiation. For anyone here who wants further information, go read it: http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/understanding-radiation/

Tsunayoshi: No they measure ionizing radiation. Not concentrations of particular elements. That is mass spectrometry. Plutonium is a very heavy element (one of the heaviest), so it is not travelling to Tokyo in the air in any great concentrations. Plutonium is more likely to contaminate the area around the Fukushima power plant and possibly escape [...]

Wow, that sounds incredible. I think everyone here in Tokyo would be ecstatic to have actual scientifically quantified (and qualified) data coming from an independent source. I’m personally very excited to hear that. I will be very eager to hear your results and hope you can share them with us.

Radtech: Yes, I was thinking of industrial limits. The civilian limit is lower as you said. It would be not fair to the general public to have nuclear occupation limits thrust upon them when the civilian limits / exposure are much lower. I believe your opinion that exposure is often under reported is true, and [...]

Thanks Radtechservices. I just spent my lunch reading your blog (which I found from your website). Here for people who are interested: http://japannuclearrelease.blogspot.com/. I had to laugh at the “dog crap” analogy for radiation.
It’s great to have someone working as a professional in the nuclear industry give us feedback. I’m not going to debate the [...]1 year, 2 months ago · View
