Popular izakaya chain Kichiri already has locations in Ikebukuro, Shibuya and Akasaka (among others), but this month it celebrates the opening of its first Yokohama branch (8F 2-15-3 Tsuruyacho, Kanagawa-ku, Yokohama; www.kichiri.com. Map. Directions.). In keeping with the aesthetic of modernist elegance, the new Kichiri features spacious koshitsu seating, pale wood décor, and even an artistically-pruned momiji tree in the lobby. The prices are reasonable, with most bottles of wine hovering in the ¥3,000-¥5,000 range, while cocktails, umeshu and shochu start at ¥525. The eclectic food menu includes everything from kara-age (¥714) to porcini and kinoko pizza (¥924).
