Opened just last month, Edomae Gatten Sushi (6-1-3 Roppongi, Minato-ku; www.gatten.co.jp) is the first Tokyo branch of the popular Saitama kaiten sushi chain. Diners can browse the daily rotation of Tsukiji-fresh seafood in a display case at the front counter. We’re told that the big seller is the tuna, which is no surprise—two pieces of chu-toro cost just ¥137. The offbeat (for a sushi restaurant) drinks menu includes not just sake but wine, with everything at reasonable prices. The shop’s manager won first place in the kaiten sushi category of the Terebi Champion TV show three consecutive times; he’s also a “vegetable sommelier,” so you know those cucumber rolls will be spot-on. English menu available.
