Classic Italian noodles, meanwhile, are on offer at Il Ponentino (B1, 8-9-15 Ginza Chuo-ku; www.k2rm.co.jp/ilponentino). Opened in November in Ginza’s Jewel Box building, this Southern Italian restaurant is run by a veteran chef who formerly worked at Taormina, a Sicilian eatery in Waikiki. A variety of pasta lunches are available for just ¥1,000, including peperoncino with anchovies, pomodoro, and spaghetti topped with sautéed chicken and cream sauce; for ¥1,500, you can get seafood-tomato risotto. The dinnertime menu features classics like beef carpaccio with lemon and oregano (¥500), trippa alla Romana (¥1,300), acqua pazza (¥2,400), and beef tagliata with balsamic sauce (¥2,700).
