When you’re trying to make a relationship last, the devil is in the details. Sugoren and Otome Sugoren are his-amd-hers websites that offer advice on the finer points of successful coupling. In one of their latest posts, they give tips for ladies on how to respond if your man loses his footing on the stairs.

  • Simply show your concern: “Are you all right? Did you hurt yourself?” Don’t overdo it, lest you embarrass him even more
  • Try a sympathetic approach: “You must be tired. Maybe you’ve been pushing yourself too hard lately.”
  • Gloss it over with a grin. “Oh, poor you! Ha ha ha, are you OK?” Not recommended for dignified types, who might take it the wrong way
  • Turn it into a joke between the two of you. He might take the bait if you throw out an airhead question like, “Oh, do you always do your stretches at this time of day?”
  • Fake it: “Oh, I didn’t see anything.” He might counter with something like: “Oh, come on, you were just loving that, weren’t you?”
  • Flatter the fumbling fellow. “You keep your cool even when tripping down a staircase, don’t you?” The word “cool” is music to most men’s ears, even in a situation like this
