If you’ve been spotting tiny figures perched on lampposts or bus stops while wandering around town, don’t worry: you aren’t losing your marbles. They’re part of Code: Tiwiki, a project conceived by Tiwiki Design and Kollektiv Tokio and launched at Tokyo Designtide 2009 back in the autumn. Three-hundred handmade figurines, each with their own name, number, color and (apparently) personality, were placed around Shibuya, though anyone who discovers one can then move it to an alternative location and log the details on the Code:Tiwiki website. At the time of writing, some of the little dudes have traveled as far as Shikoku and Hokkaido. The project aims to create “an interconnection and interaction between Tiwiki, urban space and people while offering everyone the chance to be part of this progressive, interactive and participatory operation which make[s] the city a playground.” Sounds like fun.
