June 12 is World Day Against Child Labor, and a group of local NGOs, under the umbrella of the Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation (JANIC), is holding a symposium and screening to mark the occasion. The event includes a presentation on the current state of child labor issues, as well as discussions concerning the role of governments, labor unions, the UN, NGOs and consumers in eradicating child labor. There will also be a screening of Chokora, a documentary about the lives of street children in Kenya, followed by a talk with the director, Shigeru Kobayashi. In Japanese.
