Weird how this starts off as being about Toy Story 3, and then out of nowhere switches to talk about a documentary-drama based on the sarin subway attacks, all in the same paragraph. For a second I thought: "Wow, Toy Story 3 sounds like it's going to be about some pretty heavy stuff...."

Giving this a poor review and recommending a better adaptation is a commendable thing to do. But why the 1938 Reginald Owen version? That MGM production had Hollywood stamped all over it. Scrooge's fiancee, a key plot point in the novella, is left out, and other unneccessary subplots are introduced, and the largely American and Canadian cast get the accents all wrong, and Dickens' social comentary disappears. Perhaps the best screen version is the 1951 production with Alistair Simms as Stooge, which was actually filmed in England, and does justice to the book. Surprisingly, the most faithful adaptation is the 1984 made-for-tv version with George C. Scott Even the made for TV version with Kelsey Grammar of Frasier is better that the oversweetened 1938 version.

It's playing in English in 3D, but not at all theaters. The smaller theaters are 2D. I went today (Saturday) and the 3D shows were sold out more than an hour in advance. So I saw it in 2D. It's a terrific movie, even in 2D, so it must be awesome in 3D.
