In this Hollywood origin story of Japan’s Atom Boy, a brilliant robotics scientist who recently lost a son creates a super-robot kid with all his son’s memories, but then spurns the final product as too emotionally upsetting. Maybe it’s all the hair gel. Rejected robokid, renamed Astro Boy for some reason, hangs with some human street kids in a kind of Oliver Twist thing and triumphs in a kind of Gladiator thing, all the while staying in the closet about his robotness until it’s time to save the world or something and reconcile with his dad. Not bad for a non-Pixar animation. Big screen, please.
