Better than Sly’s 1995 version

In a post-apocalyptic, dystopian future, two cop/judge/jury/executioner-type “peace” officers (Karl Urban, who never once takes off his helmet, and rookie Olivia Thirlby, a psychic) find themselves trapped in a high-rise building run by vicious gangsters (led by a scarfaced Lena Headey). For an ultra-violent, righteously degenerate, comic-book-based techno-romp, it’s well choreographed, decently paced, and even artistic. I’ve seen worse. Better than the 1995 Sylvester Stallone film from the same source material, but that’s probably because Sly insisted on occasionally taking off his helmet. (95 min)
