Love And Other Drugs

Believable and engaging

Romantic dramedy for grownups starts out light, ends up heavy, and remains for the most part believable and engaging, thanks to a pair of spot-on performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. Jamie, a hotshot, womanizing Viagra salesman, becomes interested in one of his doctor/customer’s patients. The attraction is mutual, but Maggie is not open to long-term relationships. She, at age 26, suffers from early-onset Parkinson’s, you see, and is determined not to saddle anyone with years of caring for her. Whether the feel-good drug lasts through to the emotional ending is a subjective call. I dug it.
