Lovelace

Skin-deep movie

For someone who made just one film, Linda Lovelace had a major impact on the porn film industry (and late-night comedians). Books both favoring porn and not have been written about her. Willing trailblazer or kept slave? This skin-deep movie tries to have its cake and swallow it too by portraying the pro-porn first and then overlaying what’s gone before with the “real story.” The non-compelling result has a made-for-TV feel. Perfs by Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard are spot on, but James Franco as Hugh Hefner? Please. At the end I knew little about the woman. But then I wasn’t all that curious.  (92 min)
