Spring Breakers

Confusing ugly with art

It’s Girls Gone Wild gone wild! Disney princesses, even! Three shallow, demon-spawn coeds convince their virtuous fourth roomie to come along to party in Florida. But Where the Boys Are—this ain’t. Uber-pretentious enfant terrible Harmony “I meant to do that” Korine again confuses ugly with art. But James “he’s everywhere” Franco (not my favorite) is good as Alien, a cornrowed, gun-crazy gangsta deala who bails the quartet out of trouble only to lead them into worse. This fetish tool/fever dream is standard Korine fare: purient, self-important and mind-numbingly dull. With flashes of brilliance.
