Given the incredible amount of food porn to be found on Japanese TV, it’s a wonder that there aren’t more programs like this. TV Tokyo’s Kaiten! Dream Shop is a documentary-style show about chefs struggling to open the restaurants of their dreams. This week’s episode showcases two very different restaurateurs: lifelong noodle buff Shibamori, who wants to open a ramen shop geared toward women and seniors; and Nakagahara, a former luxury hotel chef who wants to run an Italian restaurant in the ’burbs where he can enjoy a close repartee with his customers. The second half will revisit shops presented in previous editions to see how they’re getting along, including the ramen joint started by a fiftysomething salaryman who suddenly decided to quit his job and plunge into the food biz.

Airs Monday at 8pm on TV Tokyo, channel 12.
